Restricted

Lending, trading, payments and neobanking. Every major platform certifies financial advertisers market by market, disclosure requirements are set by regulators rather than by the platform, and both apply to the landing page as much as to the ad.

Two regulators, and only one of them is the platform

Fintech is the vertical where the advertising rules and the financial rules are genuinely separate, and both bind. Meta and Google each require certification for financial services, granted per market and per product type. Independently, the local financial regulator decides what must appear on the page: representative APR for consumer credit, risk warnings for leveraged trading, licensing status, the identity of the entity actually providing the service.

Clearing platform review while missing the regulatory requirement is the expensive failure mode, because the platform notices in days and the regulator notices in months.

Where campaigns actually break

  • Entity mismatch. The licensed entity, the entity on the ad account and the entity named on the landing page have to be the same one. They frequently are not, and everything downstream depends on it.
  • Market-by-market certification. Approval for one country is approval for one country. Expansion plans built on the assumption that clearance travels get stopped at the border.
  • Disclosure design. Required text that is present but unreadable satisfies nobody. This is a layout decision — see design — made at the wireframe stage.

What works

Search is the strongest channel here because the intent is explicit and the compliance overhead is a fixed cost rather than a recurring risk. Paid social works for consumer products with a simple proposition and struggles with anything that has to carry a risk warning in the creative. Organic and comparison content is where the category quietly gets decided: people research money products before they buy them, and they read more than one page.
