D2C · marketplace
D2C brands and marketplace sellers. Nothing here is prohibited, so the constraint moves to margin: what a customer costs, what they are worth over time, and whether the tracking telling you either number can be trusted.
The constraint is arithmetic
Nobody is going to remove your ad account. That removes the drama and leaves the actual problem: acquiring a customer for less than they are worth, repeatedly, while every competitor is trying to do the same thing in the same auction.
Which means the important decisions are not creative decisions. They are what a customer is allowed to cost, whether that number is based on first order or on twelve months, and how much of the reported return the finance spreadsheet actually recognises.
Measurement, before optimisation
Consent mode, ad blockers and platform attribution windows have made naive counting useless, and the platforms are not incentivised to correct it. Every channel reports the same order and each claims it. We reconcile against your own system before touching bids, because automated bidding is now the main consumer of these numbers — a model optimising towards an inflated conversion count will spend faithfully in the wrong direction.
What the restricted side contributes
Teams that spend their week keeping accounts alive under review develop habits that turn out to be ordinary good practice here: creative produced in batches rather than one hero asset, spend spread rather than concentrated, tracking built to survive a broken pixel, and a written record of what changed and when. None of it is exotic. It is just rare.
Channels
- Paid social for demand creation, judged on incremental revenue rather than platform-reported ROAS.
- Search and Shopping for demand capture, with feed quality treated as a performance lever, because it is the largest one.
- SEO for category and comparison queries, which is the traffic that keeps arriving when the ad budget pauses.
